| In the wake of its $4.4 billion agreement to purchase Starz, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said the entertaiment company is looking forward to "conversations" with its partners in Epix, hinting that those talks could include a possible exit from the fledgling premium channel. more RELATED: Lionsgate to Buy Starz for $4.4B
| WHY THIS MATTERS: With Starz now giving Lionsgate a robust distribution platform for its TV and feature film content, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that though he's pleased with the Epix relationship, it "is not truly a strategic platform for us." He said Lionsgate will "think through the best way to monetize [its] stake" in Epix.

Pallone Buoyed By FCC, Industry Set-Top Talks | | After meetings this week between FCC officials, pols and industry players about a possible compromise on FCC chairman Tom Wheeler's "unlock the box" proposal, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), ranking member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, has signaled he likes the direction the talks are taking, as long as the final destination is consumer friendly and protects content. more | | WHY THIS MATTERS: Those talks came after the NCTA and others introduced the "Ditch the box" apps-focused compromise proposal, as well as a signal from Democratic FCC commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel -- whose vote would be needed to pass a final order -- that the FCC needs to find another route to the shared goal of set-top competition and access to over-the-top content. |
