You asked, so here it is—PG goes behind the scenes to take a look at the live gear used by our own John Bohlinger and his onstage boss, country superstar Lee Brice.

Mastodon's Bill Kelliher Channels Pain and Gain

North Mississippi Allstars: "Run Red Rooster" Song Premiere
The brothers Dickinson return with a grinding blues 'n' roll homage to their home turf's tough sound, spiked by slicing slide guitar from Luther Dickinson and guest Kenny Brown.

#1 Struggling Under Armour to Boost Spending
The sports clothing and accessories company reported its first-ever quarterly loss when it announced its earnings on Thursday – a $2.3 million loss compared to a profit of $19.2 million for the previous year's first quarter. That follows the year 2016 in which the company spent only $10.8 million on measured media in the U.S., according to Age Age, citing Kantar Media data. Neil Saunders, manager director of GlobalData Retail, says while Under Armour remains innovative, "we do not believe it put its best foot forward in the first part of this year with a lack of range and product innovation making it difficult to generate consumer interest." Saunders added that more marketing is needed to keep Under Armour top of mind with consumers. Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank promised an increase in ad spending. He also said the brand needs to be more aggressive on social media through its athlete endorsers that include Stephen Curry, Tom Brady and Misty Copeland.
WHY THIS MATTERS: Sports brands are often only as popular as their endorsers and one of the things that hurt Under Armour was the disappointing sales of Curry 3, the new Stephen Curry basketball shoe. The premium shoe was introduced at $140 but did not sell well. One of the reasons could be a decline in Curry's popularity this season, as several players including Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Isiah Thomas, overshadowed him a bit on the court. Footwear sales for Under Armour last quarter were up just 2%, compared to the same quarter the previous year when they were up 64%, ESPN reported.

#2 WPP Digital Buys Deeplocal
The digital investment unit of agency holding company WPP has acquired Deeplocal, a 53-person, Pittsburgh-based digital and creative agency. The agency was launched in 2006 by current CEO Nathan Martin, who at the time was working in the art and technology lab of Carnegie Mellon University. Today, despite its small size, Deeplocal has a number of prominent clients including Google, Netflix, Airbnb, Lyft and American Eagle Outfitters. Describing the agency, Martin says, "In no other place will you find aerospace engineers, roboticists, and industrial designers working side-by-side with marketers in a culture of mutual respect."
WHY THIS MATTERS: Deeplocal took in only about $12 million in revenue in 2016, a small amount compared to giant WPP which along totaled over $7.5 billion in digital revenue alone in 2016. However WPP is committed to continuing to grow its digital business and Deeplocal has a solid track record with several larger clients. Deeplocal will continue to operate independently with Martin at the helm, but of course will now have the resources of WPP to tap into.

#3 DDB Poised to Get Lite Digital Account
There's been no official announcement, but Ad Age is reporting that DDB Chicago is expected to be named lead digital and social agency for Miller Lite. DDB has not had a beer account since it lost the Anheuser-Busch InBev account in 2011. Current incumbent digital agency on the Miller Lite account is DigitasLBi and creative handled by 180LA, which, like DDB, is an Omnicom agency.
WHY THIS MATTERS: DDB certainly has experience with beer accounts, having helped introduce Bud Light in 1981 and handling the brand for 30 years. It created several iconic campaigns for Bud, including "Real Men of Genius," "Whassup?" and introduced Spuds McKenzie. Although most of the key people who worked on that account are no longer with DDB and the agency would have to bring in new creatives to staff up, should it officially get the account.
