On its primary intended application—spoken word—the SC4098 is on the level of any fine studio condenser microphone with some slight EQ applied. Its proximity effect adds intimate and appropriate low frequency body to full-voiced speakers and a crisp yet natural-sounding boost up top, emphasizing enunciated details for great intelligibility.
At this particular church, the pastor frequently performs as a vocalist/acoustic guitarist from the pulpit, and the SC4098 also captured those performances quite well. His guitar's off-axis distance from the SC4098 seemed to blend well with the on-axis close-miked vocal; he ultimately used one Sunday's board mix to share a song via the church's preferred social media site as it sounded both detailed and natural. People travel hundreds of miles to converge on the campus of internet retailer Sweetwater to attend educational seminars; check out in-depth workshops; network with fellow pros; meet famed producers, engineers and musicians; and nab some deals on gear that are pretty, uh, sweet. | | Today's Video | Recalling Springsteen’s “Born To Run”

Forty years ago, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band recorded some of their breakthrough Born To Run album at 914 Sound Studios in the small town of Blauvelt, NY. They spent a lot of time there—so much that occasionally the band pitched a tent in the studio's backyard rather than drive home to New Jersey. Ultimately, however, they only used one song on the final album, opting to record the rest at The Record Plant in New York City. Still, if only a single song could make it to the finished LP, it was the right one: the propulsive title track.
