Today's Top Stories
#1 Tidal tanks: The numbers don't lie, Jay-Z's Tidal is a spectacular flop
  By Tiro Kuittinen, BGR
Two weeks after Tidal briefly cracked the U.S. iPhone top 20 download chart, the app has crashed out of the top 700. More»
Why This Matters: BRG pulls no punches because they take pride in doing the math. Tidal is 800-something-th in downloads; Pandora and Spotify #3 and #4 respectively. Some even speculate that all the Tidal publicity actually helped Pandora and Spotify triumph over Candy Crush in the rankings for the first time ever. Still, BRG can also write things off too soon. Tidal has taken action, swiftly kicking out the CEO and replacing him with a former consultant for the Norwegian Ministry of Environment. So that bodes well. –Cynthia Wisehart

#2 Self-powered camera could record forever
  Via InAVate
A camera that powers itself from light drawn from the image it is capturing could have wide ranging applications in the Internet of Things. A research team led by Shree K. Nayar, T.C. Chang Professor of Computer Science at Columbia Engineering, invented a prototype video camera that can produce an image each second, indefinitely, of a well-lit indoor scene. More»
Why This Matters: Could be very interesting someday for security cameras and other cameras that need to be installed away from a power source. -Cynthia Wisehart

#3 Strange sounds no one can explain
  By Caitlin Schneider, Mental Floss
Everyone has a favorite Wikipedia rabbit hole. Mine is "List of Unexplained Sounds" I can't remember how I first made my way to the page, but its array of sonic mysteries has shown me that while space is incredible, our planet is its own frontier of intrigue and unexplainable phenomena. More»
Why This Matters: Definitely mental floss. And if this is your thing, you will also want to know that one mysterious sound, the earth's hum, was finally explained last week. -Cynthia Wisehart
