LPFM Application Tally Surprises (January) In January, Randy Stine reported that 2,819 applications had been filed by those wishing to take advantage of the expansion of the low-power dial.

"Now Read This": LPFM Will Feature Classic Literature (February) Paul McLane reported on this station targeting bookworms: Classic Book Radio, basically a continuous audio book. It almost harkens back to the days of serialized radio stories and fireside chats!
LPFMs Must Participate in EAS (March) Combining two of this year's hottest topics, Digital Alert Systems President William Robertson wrote a commentary asserting that LPFM stations must be prepared to do more than the minimum and should preemptively ensure that their EAS equipment and connectivity are CAP-compliant.
SSR Renews Push for FM Class C4 (April) In April, Leslie Stimson updated readers about the push to create a C4 allocation as part of an AM revitalization effort. There were concerns about its impact on FM translators as well as LPFM stations.
LPFM: "The Little Engine That Could" (June) In June of this year, the FCC's Audio Division reported that it had granted more than 1,200 low-power FM applications from the recent filing window, and dismissed hundreds of others. At the same meeting, Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel expressed her support for the medium.
Low-Power Radio Is Incomplete (July) Don Schellhardt, a government relations attorney and self-professed LPFM and LPAM advocate, wrote a commentary for RW in July, listing concerns that he wishes the FCC would address for low-power radio. These include power levels and translator localism.

Applicants Form Factions in Fight for L.A. LPFM Slot (October) A Los Angeles group of mutually exclusive applications for an LPFM on 101.5 MHz was the largest such MX group in the country. The 21 applicants broke into a least three factions, according to REC networks.
