Today's Top 3 Stories
#1 Apple Unveils Integrated Car Service CarPlay
Back in June at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that it was developing a new platform called iOS in the Car. The company promised to bring a car-customized version of its popular mobile operating system — including a tailored version of the Siri personal assistant — to vehicles from a huge array of leading automotive manufacturers. (USA Today)
Why This Is Important: Forget third-party workarounds and ill-fitting connectors. Apple is going right to the source of car audio: the auto makers. This news is surely making many accessories manufacturers unhappy.

#2 Kickstarter Hits $1 Billion in Donations
Kickstarter has been used to raise money for everything from a Zach Braff film to smart light bulbs. How much money? More than $1 billion, the company announced on Monday. (NBC)
Why This Is Important: It's not just start-ups that are employing crowd-funding. Established CE manufacturers are using it as a means to test the popularity of a product without the expense of a full-blown execution.

#3 Microsoft To Lose Execs Bates And Reller, Report Says

The executive lineup at Microsoft could see more high-level changes this week. Vice presidents Tony Bates and Tami Reller will be leaving the company, with an announcement of the departures coming in the next few days, according to a story posted Sunday by Kara Swisher at Recode, citing "numerous sources close to the situation." No word was given on where Bates or Reller might be headed. (CNET)
Why This Is Important: As Satya Nadella took the helm as CEO, a shakeup was bound to occur. Bates was once considered to be a contender for the CEO position.

"There's a sort of weird and lovely magic of, I'm part of this, I helped create this, this thing exists because of me, isn't this fun!" -- "Sandman" and "Coraline" author Neil Gaiman, who was named Kickstarter's "most influential" donor.
