BRING ME THE HORIZON'S OLI SYKES: HOW LOVE'S HIGHS AND LOWS INSPIRED 'AMO'
When Bring Me the Horizon announced the follow-up to 2015's dynamic That's the Spirit, frontman Oli Sykes promised an album "that's more experimental, more varied, weird and wonderful than anything we've done before." The band's new LP, Amo, more than delivers, with its diverse songs, from the hard-hitting "Mantra," to the pop-inflected "Medicine", and expansive guest shots: Grimes, Rahzel and Dani Filth.
But, as the vocalist tells Revolver, the record's lyrics are considerably less wide-ranging than the music. "[Amo is] kind of a concept album that deals, every song to some extent, about love," reveals Sykes, who has experienced the highs and lows of the emotion over recent years. "I went through a divorce a couple years ago, which was quite crazy, and I got a lot of baggage from that," he explains. "But also got into a new relationship and found a new wife."
Watch Sykes discuss the lyrics to Amo, the ups and downs of love, and how fans and society play a role, in the video above.
