The media is often derided as being elitist and out of touch with Main Street, USA. Its performance on Election Night and the many months leading up to it only reinforces the notion of journalists being stuck in their coastal urban bubble. MSNBC anchor Brian Williams has spoken frequently before of "Margaret Mead journalism" and did so again Tuesday night. He described the phenomenon as "when New York- and Washington-based journalists either accidentally take the wrong turn on GPS and drive into America, drive through America to visit a relative, come back, and report, 'The place is covered with Trump signs!' They're just amazed to find this."
