United Recording has launched a new mastering division designed by new staff engineers Erick Labson and Warren Sokol, formerly with Universal Mastering, in collaboration with Steven Miller, United's executive consultant.
Best-known as one-half of Eurythmics, producer Dave Stewart shows in his new autobiography, Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This: A Life In Music, that he knows how to handle a session. With that in mind, we rummaged through his book (a speedy, fun read with more hair-raising drug stories than you can shake a thai stick at) to find some insights on recording and creativity in general. There were plenty to choose from, so here's just a handful.
"I don't use plug-ins, I don't use snapshots or anything like that; every single night, I mix by memory—and it's because if I don't do that, I'm not able to respond to what Andra and her band are doing on stage.
