#1 Google Forms Web Policing Coalition
The giant online search engine is forming a coalition of marketers, publishers, agencies and other ad industry organizations that will be called The Coalition for Better Ads, Ad Age reports. Other participants will include Procter & Gamble, Unilever, The Washington Post, American Association of Advertising Agencies, Association of National Advertisers, World Federation of Advertisers and GroupM. The goal will be to monitor the quality of online ads using technology now in development at the Interactive Advertising Bureau's Tech Lab. Only ads that make it through the filter will be displayed on websites of participating companies.
Why This Matters: Sound familiar? This new coalition seems to mirror the Acceptable Ads program announced earlier this week by Adblock Plus. Google was initially announced as a partner in that program but shortly after the announcement said it never agreed to participate. Now it is starting a similar venture.

#2 New Job for Scanzoni as GroupM Reorganizes
The WPP unit that oversees media agencies Mindshare, MEC, MediaCom and Maxus is in the midst of a management reassessment that will result in the redistribution of responsibilities for several executives, MediaPost reports, citing sources. Rino Scanzoni, GroupM's North America chief investment officer, is expected to take on a new role and a successor as CIO will be named. Scanzoni is reportedly participating in an evaluation that will result in newly crafted and more sizable roles for "talented up-and-comers on his team." And the media investment area is only one of several where changes will be made.
Why This Matters: Scanzoni oversees a massive overall GroupM client ad spending budget that totals more than $12 billion on annual broadcast and cable TV spending alone, so moving him up the ladder and giving someone else his CIO role is no small move or decision. But in today's media agency environment, when clients are calling for more frequent agency reviews, it is important to develop a deep roster of upper level talent.

#3 Agencies Have Digital Talent Problem
A new report from agency-focused talent company smith & beta, finds that not only do most agencies feel they are ill-prepared to give their clients the digital solutions they need, but employees also worry they're not getting the right training to improve in those areas, according to a Media Life article. Some 55% of agency respondents say they're lacking in mobile ad skills, while 50% say they are novices when it comes to understanding digital measurement. Allison Kent-Smith, founder of smith & beta, discusses the situation.
Why This Matters: The data paints a picture of an agency structure that is woefully unprepared for clients' digital needs and with digital marketing seen as the future, this does not bode well for media agencies.
