Top Stories - Sept. 30, 2016 On Demand 2016: Amazon's Streaming Partners Program Clicking With Content Makers, Consumers Amazon's Streaming Partners Program, an initiative launched last year for the company's popular Prime service, has been a hit with consumers and content partners that are filling it with specialized SVOD-OTT services as the offering nears its first year on the market.  more WHY THIS MATTERS: The program, launched last December, has not cannibalized the viewing market, but instead has helped partners add incremental subs, Michael Paull, Amazon vice president, digital video, said in a keynote conversation at the "MCN"/"B&C" On Demand conference Thursday. On Demand 2016: Comcast's Meyer Says Stacking, X1 Changing Game Stephen Meyer, VP of video strategy and analysis for Comcast, said in-season stacking rights and the tech innovations of the X1 system are pushing the top cable operator to new VOD heights. more WHY THIS MATTERS: Stacking's growth over the last two years is making a significant difference, Meyers said at the "MCN"/"B&C" On Demand conference, noting major cable networks will offer in-season stacking of 78% of their 2016-17 programing, while the Big Four broadcast networks will hit roughly 58% of theirs. Set-Top Box Proposal Pulled From FCC Meeting It appears FCC chairman Tom Wheeler could not secure the three votes needed for his set-top revamp proposal, at least not yet, with the agency announcing just 20 minutes before its monthly public meeting that the vote had been removed from the agenda. more WHY THIS MATTERS: The move came after major pushback on the vote from legislators in both parties, ISPs, studios, unions and some diversity groups, but the FCC said the item remains under consideration.
