Chris Stone, a founding partner in the legendary Record Plant recording studios and leading figure in the music recording industry for nearly 50 years, suffered a heart attack and massive stroke and died on September 10 at the age of 81. In January 2016, Record Plant Recording Studios co-founders Gary Kellgren and Chris Stone were inducted into the NAMM TEC Awards Hall of Fame, honoring pioneers of the music industry for Technical Excellence and Creativity.
