Top Stories - Aug. 12, 2016 Google Eyes Wireless Broadband Trials Google is gearing up to conduct wireless broadband trials in as many as 24 U.S. locations, including New York, Chicago and Atlanta, according to a partially-redacted document filed with the FCC on August 5 in which it seeks permission to move forward.  more WHY THIS MATTERS: Google's continued flirtation with wireless comes amid Google Fiber's relatively slow deployment of FTTP networks in several markets and reports that it has put buildouts on hold so it can pursue less expensive alternatives. AT&T Launches 'GigaPower' in St. Louis AT&T has launched its fiber-based GigaPower services platform in parts of St. Louis, where the telco tangles with incumbent MSO Charter Communications. more WHY THIS MATTERS: The 1-Gbps service, which AT&T recently moved to an unlimited plan, is already available in parts of the city and should be fully deployed by year-end, the telco said. Kagan: Cable Future Bright Residential cable revenue is expected to rise 8.6% from $108.4 billion in 2016 to $117.7 billion by 2026, fueled by a slightly improved outlook for the video business and continued growth in broadband, according to an SNL Kagan report. more WHY THIS MATTERS: Factoring in additional sales on the commercial side, total cable revenue is expected to rise from $130.57 billion in 2016 to $140.99 billion in 2026, or about 8% over the 10-year period, according to Kagan.
