Top Stories - Aug. 10, 2016 Goei: Altice USA Will Consider Alternative Nets Altice USA CEO Dexter Goei said the fourth largest cable operator in the country will take a hard look at programming costs, with options for reductions including replacing more expensive networks that are less valued by customers with cheaper channels.  more WHY THIS MATTERS: Goei pointed to Suddenlink's programming strategy of adding lower-priced fare like Comedy.TV after it dropped Viacom networks nearly two years ago, with "relatively minimal" subscriber impact on the company. Related: Altice USA to Close Connecticut Call Centers Altice USA said it will shutter its call center in Shelton, Conn., as well as a back-office operation in nearby Stratford, in November, resulting in the loss of about 600 jobs at the company. more WHY THIS MATTERS: While Altice agreed to a condition not to reduce any customer-facing positions in New York for four years or in New Jersey for two years following its Cablevision acquisition, that provision was not part of the merger approval process in Connecticut. Charter Still Weighing MVNO Options Charter Communications president and CEO Tom Rutledge indicated on the company's Q2 earnings call that wireless will be part of the MSO's game plan going forward, but he stopped short of saying whether that strategy will ultimately include an MVNO component. more WHY THIS MATTERS: Charter expanded into the metro WiFi game by inheriting the networks deployed by Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, while also getting access to an MVNO deal with Verizon in the merger.
