Top Stories - July 26, 2016 Usage-Based Broadband Picks Up More Steam Broadband data policies that place a soft cap on monthly usage and charge more for additional buckets of data are rapidly becoming the norm among the nation's Internet-service providers.  more WHY THIS MATTERS: Suddenlink (now part of Altice USA), Mediacom Communications, GCI and AT&T have commercially deployed such policies, with CenturyLink slated to start testing a new broadband data policy later this week while Comcast continues to expand its usage-based trials. C Spire Teams With MobiTV on Next-Gen TV Service C Spire said it is working with MobiTV on a next-gen, in-home TV service that will do away with "traditional" set-tops and instead target a wide range of connected streaming platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV devices, select smart TVs, and iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. more WHY THIS MATTERS: C Spire said the new service will feature a full linear TV lineup, including local broadcast TV stations, VOD, a cloud DVR and a seven-day TV "catch up" service, with plans to add optional "skinny" channel packages.
