Top Stories - June 2, 2016 Google Fiber Brings 'Cast' to Pay TV Platform Google Fiber confirmed Wednesday that it is adding Google Cast to its Fiber TV boxes, a move that will help extend a bridge to various over-the-top video services and applications.  more WHY THIS MATTERS: The integration of Google Cast will allow customers to use "thousands of apps" on the TV without switching inputs, including YouTube, Netflix, Google Play, Google Photos and Pandora, but some cast-enabled apps won't work with Fiber TV, including Hulu, WatchESPN, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Watch ABC and HBO Now. Bezos: Amazon Doesn't Compete With Netflix Despite making some moves that would seemingly help Amazon Prime's SVOD offering compete more directly with OTT market leader Netflix, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said emphatically that the two services are not competitors. more WHY THIS MATTERS: Bezos's comments at Recode's Code Conference followed Amazon's recent decision to offer a standalone OTT service that would complement the way it bakes SVOD into Amazon Prime and perhaps set up a way to broaden the international reach of its video service.
