| | Liberman Broadcasting told the FCC that Comcast has not made a case for why the agency should dismiss its carriage complaint against the cable operator and that, instead, a compelling case remains for the FCC to take action. more | WHY THIS MATTERS: Liberman challenged each of Comcast's arguments filed in response to the broadcaster's April 8 program-carriage complaint, citing among other issues "clear and compelling evidence" that Comcast discriminated against Liberman's Estrella TV to favor its NBCU-owned Spanish-language networks, Telemundo and NBC Universo, and saying that's in violation both of program-carriage rules and Comcast-NBCU deal conditions.

| | ACA: OK With Charter-TWC Absent Buildout Condition | | The American Cable Association said it agrees with New Charter that the Charter-Time Warner Cable merger is in the public interest, so long as the FCC cans the broadband buildout condition. more | | WHY THIS MATTERS: The ACA had sought FCC reconsideration of the merger based on the agency's imposition of a condition requiring Charter to provide high-speed broadband of at least 60 Mbps to at least a million locations already served by at least 25-Mbps broadband, an expansion of service that the ACA said would come at the expense of smaller operators. |
