| | After riding a solid wave of growth, the U.S. video streaming market is for the first time showing signs of saturation, according to a new study and forecast from Strategy Analytics. more | WHY THIS MATTERS: Per the study, U.S. consumers will spend $6.62 billion on video streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu this year, and while that represents an increase of $1.19 billion (or 22% ) compared with 2015, it also marks the first time that the amount spent on those services will fall below the previous year's increase of $1.21 billion.

| | Comcast Sets $200 Limit on Monthly Data Overage Charges in Trial Markets | | Comcast has confirmed that it has been sending letters to broadband customers that will be affected by a new 1-Terabyte usage-based broadband policy in several trial markets, including a new wrinkle that will limit monthly overage charges to $200. more | | WHY THIS MATTERS: The limit on overage charges is a new addition to the 1-TB broadband plan Comcast announced in April, when it more than tripled its data caps in test markets where it had been trialing a 300-GB plan. |
| | House Appropriations Bill Would Delay Set-Top Proposal | | Republican lawmakers continue to try using the appropriations process to block FCC Open Internet rules and further FCC process reforms that Democrats don't support, now with the addition of delaying the FCC's set-top box proceeding. more | | WHY THIS MATTERS: The bill would prohibit "the FCC from implementing the net-neutrality order until certain court cases are resolved" and, notably, would block the agency from voting on its set-top box proposal until "a study" -- at least two have been called for by some members of Congress -- is completed. |
