| | It's Official: Charter-TWC Approved | | The FCC confirmed Friday that all five commissioners have now voted the Charter-TWC deal, which was approved on May 5. more | WHY THIS MATTERS: The conditions on the deal -- in effect for seven years -- include no data caps or usage-based pricing, no interconnection fees, no anticompetitive programming contracts disadvantaging OVDs and adherence to the FCC's Open Internet rules no matter what the court decides.

| | FCC's Media Bureau Issues Video Competition Report | | The FCC has released its 17th report on the state of video competition, and said the most significant trends since the last report are "the continuing development, and consumer usage, of time- and location-shifted viewing of video programming, the expansion of digital and high-definition programming, and the progress of the online video industry." more | | WHY THIS MATTERS: Continuing a trend from the last report, which marked the first-ever decline in video subs, the FCC found that cable MVPD subscribership continued to decline, dropping to 53.7 million households from 55.1 million. By contrast, telco video subs rose from 11.8 million to 13.2 million households and DBS subs held steady at 34.4 million households in the same time period. |
