Buyers Downplay Strong Scatter on Eve of Upfront This year's upfront feels much different than the last couple. Scatter has been exceedingly hot and that's boosted ad revenue for most of the programmers the last few quarters. Second-quarter scatter has long been a bellwether for the upfront, but even during the fourth quarter and first quarter, scatter market volume and pricing have encouraged senior media executives such as CBS' Leslie Moonves and Discovery's David Zaslav to comment on how strong they expect pricing and volume to be in the upfront. Annual NewFronts Blitz Kicks Off With Vox-Google News The 9th annual NewFronts – featuring presentations by 39 brands during the next two weeks across New York City – kicked off with a MediaLink breakfast that served as the calm before the storm, favoring conversation over pitches. Jim Bankoff, CEO of Vox Media (parent of sites such as SB Nation and The Verge), used his breakfast keynote slot to announce an extension of the company's month-old venture called Concert, which involves NBCU and Vox sharing ads across their respective sites.
