MCN Newswire: Cable Stocks Weather Another Storm; AMC, NCTC Avoid Blackout; TWC Sees Video Growth

Top Stories - Jan. 5, 2016
Cable Weathers Market Sell-Off
Cable stocks took a hit in an overall market sell-off Monday, but most managed to keep losses in check in the early hours of the session, even as the Dow Jones Industrial Average Plunged 450 points in early trading.  more
WHY THIS MATTERS: A 7% drop in mainland China stocks hit some U.S. tech stocks hard -- Netflix fell 7% and Google parent Alphabet dipped 3% -- but cable stock losses were manageable, with declines in the 1% to 3% range.

AMC, NCTC Reach Agreement
Despite weeks of what were sometimes contentious negotiations, with threats that it would drop its suite of channels, AMC Networks said it has reached a multiyear carriage agreement with the National Cable Television Cooperative. more
WHY THIS MATTERS: The programmer and the cooperative were able to get past two hurdles -- pricing and mandatory carriage of all six of AMC Networks' channels -- to work out the deal, avoiding a blackout of the services among the NCTC's more than 700 member cable operators.

TWC Adds 32K Video Subs in 2015
Time Warner Cable said residential subscriber growth for 2015 was the MSO's best ever, an achievement that comes as the operator is in the process of being acquired by Charter Communications. more
WHY THIS MATTERS: TWC added a net 618,000 customer relationships last year, highlighted by a rarity -- the addition of 32,000 net video subs -- as well as 1 million high-speed data additions and 1.03 million voice adds. The MSO released the figures the same day the FCC paused its review of the Charter-TWC-Bright House Networks merger (see story under NEWS, below).
