Dish Takes Aim at Bright House Deal Benefits
Satellite-TV provider Dish Network which is no fan of the proposed merger of Charter Communications, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks took aim at the Bright House portion of the deal in an FCC filing, using information gleaned from highly confidential deal material the regulator made available to third parties. more
WHY THIS MATTERS:Dish said in the filing that the benefits from the merger across all three MSOs are "either illusory" or not specific to the transaction and called the Bright House connection the weak link between the deal and its purported benefits.
Chromecast Tops Streaming Media Charts: Study
Google's Chromecast streaming adapter topped the global media streamer market in the third quarter, with about 9.2 million devices shipped to take a 35% market share, Strategy Analytics found in a new study. more

ITU: 95% of World Covered by Mobile Broadband
The latest global broadband report from the International Telecommunications Union finds that more than 3 billion people are now online and more than 95% of the global population is "covered" by a mobile cellular signal. more
WHY THIS MATTERS:ITU's "Measuring the Information Society Report," released Monday, projected that by the end of the year, 46% of households will have Internet access, up from 44% last year and 30% five years ago, and global broadband deployment is on track to top the goal of 55% five years from now set in the ITU Connect 2020 Agenda goals.
