MCN Newswire: Altice Finances Cablevision Buy; Verizon's go90 Goes Wide; Amazon Axes Apple TV, Chromecast

Top Stories - Oct. 2, 2015
Altice Puts Together Cablevision Financing
Altice continues to line up financing for its pending $17.7 billion purchase of Cablevision Systems, raising about $8.6 billion in new debt and readying the placement of about $1.8 billion of its own stock. more
WHY THIS MATTERS: There had been some concern that raising the debt for the Cablevision deal would be costly for Altice, as interest rates on high-yield debt deals have risen in the past several weeks.

Verizon Launches go90 App for iOS, Android
Moving beyond its private, invitation-only beta, go90, Verizon's new OTT "mobile first" video service for millennials, is now widely available with the release of iOS and Android mobile apps. more
WHY THIS MATTERS: The broader reach of the service, which has about 8,000 titles and 35 exclusive original series, comes soon after Comcast kicked off the beta debut of Watchable, a similar ad-supported OTT service with about 30 content partners.

Amazon to Halt Sales of Apple TV, Chromecast Devices
As an indicator of how competitive the market for OTT video services and devices is becoming, Amazon will stop selling the Apple TV and Google Chromecast adapter on Oct. 29 to instead focus on platforms that "interact well" with Amazon's own streaming service. more
WHY THIS MATTERS: Amazon's decision comes amid the introduction of a new Apple TV device with a more open app ecosystem, as well as a new, redesigned Chromecast with improved WiFi connectivity and faster video streaming playback. The loss of Amazon could hamper sales of both products.
