Why This Matters: BYOD, or Bring Your Own Collabortion (BYOC), as IT terms it from the IT perspective. It's a long story, but there are some really valuable gems in here about our work and school culture where people are finding and using unsupported and "shadow IT" devices and apps—devices and apps prohibited against IT policy and control—to bring about more collaboration on their terms. The writer suggests that instead of IT departments being boxed in, let the users bring the tools they really would use to the table instead of bringing users to the tools they have to use and never doing so. In our market, I think we've long understood and valued how users actually work and try to build systems around them instead of the other way around.
