Today's Top Stories | #1 | AV in Space: Take a self-guided virtual tour of the International Space Station | | By Michael Franco, CNET | | While we've seen lots of photos and videos of the inside of the International Space Station (ISS), seen what our planet looks like from ab aboard the orbiting outpost and even heard what it sounds like up there, your chance to actually guide yourself through the various modules that comprise the station has been limited. That changed in June, when the European Space Agency (ESA) put up a website that allowed you to pilot your mouse around the Columbus module. Now, the ESA has expanded its virtual tour site to include five more modules. More» Why This Matters: Thank you ESA and specifically Samantha Cristoferetti. She's the astronaut who did the camera work last month to make this possible. You can read the short article or go directly to the tours. -Cynthia Wisehart | | #2 | Registration opens for Government Video Expo 2015 (via The Wire@SVCOnline) | | Now in its 18th year, Government Video Expo showcases video, broadcast, audio, display, streaming and delivery technologies on its exhibit floor, while also providing a broad range of educational options for media professionals working in television and production for federal, state and local government, education, law enforcement and education. More» Why This Matters: Several co-located events including the National Drone Show, DC Post Production Conference, and educational events around video conferencing, distance learning and mobile make this November event a key hub. The article briefly provides lay of the land and links to various of these events and registration for any and all. -Cynthia Wisehart | | #3 | Review: HI-Res-capable, Dual-Coil-packing T20 in-ear headphones from Reid Heath Audio | | By Paul Ridden, Gizmag | | Back in May, British headphone maker Reid Heath Audio (RHA) announced a new pair of in-ear headphones that debuted something called DualCoil dynamic driver technology. The company had managed to install two independently-powered dynamic voice coils on a micro ring magnet, one to handle lower audio frequencies and the other to take care of the higher end. The T20s promised a true-to-life reproduction and support for high resolution audio. We got to plug in for some hi-res, and lo-res, listening. More» Why This Matters: The article comes with some interesting diagrams that explain the Dual-Coil tech. And the reviewer is just as surprised as I am that an in-ear can deliver anything worth putting in this newsletter. "At the risk of being branded quite mad, the reproduction
seemed quite vinyl-like". And then he goes in to some convincing detail as to why. He doesn't share whether he enhanced the digital experience with any analog organic substances. Cynthia Wisehart |
