But it has an added subpixel and a special circuit that allows it to "upscale" to the equivalent of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels, or 8K, resolution. Sharp is calling the technology the world's first 8K upscaling engine, and the TV will cost over ¥1.6 million (US$13,000) when it goes on sale in July. More» Why This Matters: Sharp says the screen adds a yellow subpixel to the traditional red, green and blue (RGB) array. Sharp has deployed RGBY before in the LCDs used in the Quatron line. Sharp's also claiming a newly developed signal-processing circuit called the X8-Master Engine Pro, which automatically cuts noise and adjusts contrast and color based on the imagery being displayed. -Cynthia Wisehart |
