Today's Top Stories
#1 Apple confirms that Apple TV will be your SmartHome hub
  By Johnny Evans, Computerworld
Apple has published a guide to setting up and using HomeKit-enabled accessories with iOS devices. More»
Why This Matters: In advance of WWDC next week, the rumors have begun. One key rumor: Apple TV as a "private and secure" hub for your home systems. What Apple TV won't be apparently is an Apple TV Subscription service. At least not yet. It also won't have the rumored new hardware, or the hotly anticipated remote, or the developer's kit. So in other words it is not a media hub, it is a HomeKit hub. -Cynthia Wisehart

#2 Apple to announce new music services
By Ethan Smith and Daisuke Wakabayashi, The Wall Street Journal
More than a decade after it revolutionized music ownership with digital downloads through iTunes, Apple Inc. is again trying to change how consumers listen to their favorite songs with a new subscription streaming service and a renewed push into Internet radio. More»
Why This Matters: According to the WSJ, Apple will announce it's competitor to Spotify and Pandora. With an option that is different from either. -Cynthia Wisehart

#3 Sharp's latest 4K TV adds yellow subpixel for 8K resolution
  By Tim Hornyak, PC Advisor
The 80-inch Aquos 4K Next TV has a nominal resolution of 3,840 x 2,160, which is also known as Ultra HD or 4K. But it has an added subpixel and a special circuit that allows it to "upscale" to the equivalent of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels, or 8K, resolution. Sharp is calling the technology the world's first 8K upscaling engine, and the TV will cost over ¥1.6 million (US$13,000) when it goes on sale in July. More»
Why This Matters: Sharp says the screen adds a yellow subpixel to the traditional red, green and blue (RGB) array. Sharp has deployed RGBY before in the LCDs used in the Quatron line. Sharp's also claiming a newly developed signal-processing circuit called the X8-Master Engine Pro, which automatically cuts noise and adjusts contrast and color based on the imagery being displayed. -Cynthia Wisehart
