Singing with a live orchestra, the Chairman of the Board puffs away on his cigarettes, keeps an ear out for bad notes, cracks jokes to keep the mood up and remains focused on the practical demands of the day, too, concerned that the song remain short enough for rigid radio formats.

The listener doesn't care if you used a $20,000 microphone or whateverthey want something they can relate to and that hits them right in the heart. It is all about the emotionand as long as you can capture that emotion, you're doing great. It's hard enough getting a concise idea across, let alone letting all the gear get in the way."
