| Top Stories | | 30th Annual NAMM TEC Awards Wrap-Up Recording, audio and music industry professionals gathered to honor excellence in sound technology and creativity at the 30th Annual NAMM TEC Awards, held on January 24, 2015, in Anaheim, Calif. The professional audio and music production industry's most prestigious awards celebrate excellence in 30 creative and technical achievement categories. The awards are held annually during the Winter NAMM Show, the world's leading global music industry trade event, which draws more than 95,000 members of the music products industry to Anaheim. NAMM 2015 Best of Show Awards The Pro Audio division of NewBay Media's AV/Pro Audio Group announced its Best of Show Award winners today following the 2015 NAMM Show. The Pro Audio division is comprised of trusted NewBay Media titles Mix, Pro Sound News (PSN) and Pro Audio Review (PAR). NewBay Media's Best of Show Awards are gleaned from submitted nominations and subsequent evaluation by a panel of engineers, industry experts and NewBay Media staff members. The Exodus in Atmos It's a Ridley Scott epic, a biblical story with swords and battles and locusts and seas parting. And it's an open palette for sound, from a sound-oriented director. It also was the first Dolby Atmos film to be mixed in London's Twickenham Stage 1 on the Neve DFC, by the mix team of Paul Massey, Mark Taylor and Oliver Tarney, who also supervised. Here, Tarney recounts some highlights. Happy Fangs, 'Capricorn' Happy Fangs is an apt name for this energetic punk trio from San Francisco. They've got a major edge, but a joyful sound, too, thanks to catchy rhythms and the bright sound of Rebecca Gone Bad's lead vocal. McCoy, CAS, Relies On Sound Devices 664 Production Mixer » The Hit House Produces Original Music, Sound Design for Lexus NX Campaign » Apogee, Sennheiser Announce Partnership at NAMM Show » | | | Featured Products | | ATC SCM45A Active Three-Way Reference Monitor British loudspeaker manufacturer ATC, led by Billy Woodman, introduced the ATC SCM45A ($11,490 MAP) reference monitors at Winter NAMM 2015. The company states that the ATC SCM45A monitors will be in stock and ready to ship on February 1, 2015. The SCM45A is a completely new design but shares many features with the SCM25A. It fills a gap in ATC's product range for a mid-size three-way that can be used in near- or mid-field positions. It has high output and extended low frequency for its size, without compromising the overall balance for which ATC is known. dbx 500 Series Processors At Winter NAMM 2015, Harman's dbx introduced its 500 Series processors, comprising five half-rackspace recording studio signal processors. The new 500 Series models include the 560A Compressor/Limiter ($399), 530 Parametric EQ ($399), 580 Mic Pre ($499), 520 De-Esser ($299) and 510 Sub Harmonic Synth ($299). dbx states that the 560A will be the first product in this series to ship, becoming available in April 2015, with the other models to follow. Soundcraft Signature Series Analog Mixing Consoles Harman's Soundcraft has introduced its Signature Series and Signature Series Multi-Track analog mixing consoles. Signature Series consoles are available in four frame sizes: 10-channel, 12-channel, 16-channel, and 22-channel, while the Signature Series Multi-Track consoles are available in 12-channel (14-in/12-out USB interface) and 22-channel (24-in/22-out USB interface). Dynaudio Professional Mounting Solution for BM mkIII and AIR 6 Monitors Two new mounting brackets for the BM mkIII Series of monitors and Dynaudio AIR 6 are designed and manufactured by König & Meyer in Germany.
