January 27, 2015 2015 NAMM PICK: Audio-Technica's New ATH-M70x and ATH-R70x Professional Studio Headphones Long renowned for its M-Series line of studio headphones, Audio-Technica ups the ante with the introduction of two new professional headphones specially designed for critical studio applications. Both the ATH-M70x Professional Monitor Headphones and ATH-R70x Professional Open-Back Reference Headphones feature proprietary 45 mm large-aperture drivers and high-resolution frequency response of 5 – 40,000 Hz. But there's plenty that sets them apart, too, with the biggest difference evident in the designs. The closed-back, contoured earcups of the M70x provide excellent sound isolation, while the acoustically transparent, aluminum honeycomb-mesh housings of the R70x deliver a spacious open-back sound.
