TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE - December 2, 2014 Conference Microphones and Systems With Bennett Liles A conference can be one of the most challenging audio environments with dozens of participants—none of whom are sound control experts—and an intense focus on content, which can be easily distracted by the smallest technical glitch. Conference systems have to be both complex and foolproof, a very difficult combination to balance even in modern equipment. Microphones are the primary user interface, so a number of them are singled out here, but we also survey entire systems that are ingenious in design and flexible in their applications. MORE>> EVENTS Event Safety Alliance's Event Safety Summit Tues., Dec. 2 – Thurs., Dec. 4, 2014 The three-day symposium, to be held at the Tait Towers' campus in Lititz, Penn., will include a hands-on workshop designed to increase awareness of the many event safety risks present at live events and teach event producers to address those risks more effectively.  It will also focus on the importance of making sure that every live event has the right insurance coverage supporting it. MORE>> ASG Annual Workshop, “Initiatives in 4K" Wed., Dec. 3, 10 a.m., San Francisco Video and film integration firm, Advanced Systems Group (ASG) will explore the expanding use of 4K for professional video applications at its annual workshop, “Initiatives in 4K,” on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at the New People Cinema at the New People building in San Francisco. Free presentations begin at 10 a.m., and the workshop includes lunch sponsored by Quantum Corp. Initiatives in 4K will feature five presentations discussing a number of 4K topics, including acquisition, post production, display, delivery, and real-time 4K live event production.
