Ward Church, a Presbyterian house of worship in the suburbs of Detroit, had long offered three different worship settings each Sunday: a liturgical service in its chapel, a traditional service in its sanctuary, and a post-modern service in Knox Hall, a large multi-use venue. After a new worship director was hired, the church decided to start a fourth, mainstream contemporary service that featured a more driving and progressive rock musical style.
By Clive Young We've written a lot of posts on the PSN Blog, but the most popular one ever, hands down, was from 2011: "The 'Freebird' of Pro Audio" looked at how every FOH engineer on the planet seems to use either Steely Dan or its singer Donald Fagan's solo track, "I.G.Y." to tune a PA. Heck, it was so popular that it was even quoted in the Wikipedia entry for the album "I.G.Y." is from, The Nightfly. After the post, in the comments section, reader Sam Bryant joked, "What does the FOH guy for Steely Dan listen to when they are tweaking their system?" As it turns out, we found out the answer.
"They said, 'We don't have anybody that can put this [analog] gear together for you.' I said, 'I've got a couple of hours.' I put it together, went out and did a show, then sat back and said, 'Why haven't I been doing this the whole time?'"
