Cable Nets, Studio Drive Record Year at Disney The Walt Disney Co., fueled by strong gains at its cable networks and movie studios, reported record growth for fiscal 2014 and the fourth quarter, with overall revenue up 8% to $48.8 billion for the full year while segment operating income for the period rose 21% to $13 billion.more
Weak Q3 for Cablevision Cable operations revenue rose 5% in the third quarter at Cablevision Systems, mainly due to price increases for broadband and video services, as basic video customers fell by 56,000 and broadband subscribers, once the main growth engine for the company, dropped by 23,000. more
Tighter Credit, Competition Pressure DirecTV As it nears the conclusion of its planned $48.5 billion merger with AT&T, satellite giant DirecTV said it shed 28,000 net subscribers in the U.S. in the third quarter, primarily because of tighter credit policies and tougher competition.more
