October 28, 2014 Discovery Channel Names Rich Ross President Discovery Communications named former Shine America CEO and Disney executive Rich Ross to the position of president of the Discovery Channel, effective January 2015.  Ross will be based at the programmer's Los Angeles office and will oversee creative and brand strategy, development, production, marketing and all day-to-day operations for the network.
