Recording away from the comforts of my studio is never easy, especially when it's a few thousand miles away from home on an island. However, with a lot of preparation, forethought, planning and help from Fed Ex, it can be a challenging, fun and ultimately rewarding adventure. This year, a small gang of talented and crazy musicians, engineers and producers went to St John in the US Virgin Islands for two weeks of playing shows, recording, composing and of course, relaxing. Audio professionals are eagerly awaiting the 137th Audio Engineering Society Convention, which will take place Thursday, October 9, through Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. Many know, however, that this annual U.S. conference and exposition is part of a complex web of a number of other educational and social events sponsored by the AES throughout the year. These events take place all over the world and focus on specific areas of interest to audio professionals. They serve to create a forum amongst professionals in those fields, and through these gatherings and the publication of their proceedings, contribute to the advance of international science and technology.
