  TechCrunch has learned that Apple has made another acquisition, one that it is using to boost its e-books effort and "beat Amazon at its own game." It has bought BookLamp, a startup based out of Boise, Idaho, that developed big data-style book analytics services. (TechCrunch)
Why This Is Important: BookLamp provides book recommendations based on user preferences and is viewed as a push toward Apple's e-book effort and fuel in its competition with Amazon.

Amazon Is Selling Customized 3D-Printed Jewelry, Toys And More 
Amazon.com Inc will offer 3D printing services that allow customers to customize and build earrings, bobble head toys and other items from third-party sellers using a new personalization option on its website.(Huffington Post)
Why This Is Important: Amazon has expanded its marketplace once again; more than 200 items can be customized in the 3D printed products store.
