Judge to Determine if Rice Can Be a Licensee
Years ago Michael Rice got into severe legal trouble and was effectively banned from owning and operating radio stations. He's back, and better, he says. He wants to buy an FM translator. The FCC is skeptical.

Wheeler Cites LPFM Progress
The FCC chairman says the commission must look back, into history, in order to move forward. At its June 13 monthly open meeting, the commission plans an update "on the continuing efforts to launch new and diverse voices to the American public via increased access" to LPFMs.

Connecticut Ham Hero (ARRL)
Radio amateur Keith Mutch, KB1RBI, of Torrington, Conn., spotted a canoeist in distress at Ocean Beach and used his handheld transceiver to contact the local Coast Guard to affect a rescue. Mutch also corralled the canoeist's dog which had swum to shore when the canoe capsized.

New Marion Station Starts Tuesday (Marion Star)
Marion, Ohio's LPFM, WWGH, is on the air. The first show featured a U.S. senator, the state's lieutenant governor, former "Good Morning America" host David Hartman and Jayne Meadows. Not a bad start for an LPFM.

Turning Waste Heat Into Energy (IEEE)
