#1 Apple Wooed By Arizona As Obama Seeks U.S. Jobs Comeback
Arizona got snubbed by Apple in 2012 when the iPhone maker picked Texas to build a new operations hub. Scott Smith, the mayor of the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, was determined to keep history from  repeating itself. (Bloomberg)
Why This Is Important:  The town provided major incentives to entice Apple its way, including tax breaks and speedier building permits. It even got the state to declare a vacant 1.3 million-square-foot facility, that Apple showed interest in, a foreign trade zone.

#2 Sony Makes Big Profits, Just Not On Electronics
Not all companies with Sony in the name are toxic. Take Sony Financial, the insurer in which Sony owns a 60 percent stake. While the parent company said last week that it expects to lose $1.1 billion for the 2013-14 fiscal year, Sony Financial is doing just fine, thanks. (Businessweek)
Why This Is Important: Although Sony is exiting PCs and creating a separate TV business subsidiary, impatient analysts are criticizing Hirai's lack of a growth strategy.

#3 Meet The Next Small Windows Tablet: Asus VivoTab Note 8
Announced at January's Consumer Electronics Show, the Asus VivoTab Note 8 tablet is now available for sale. The original price was slated to be $299, but the Windows 8.1 tablet launched on Microsoft's online store for $329 on Monday, notes Engadget. Just hours after its initial availability, the VivoTab Note 8 shows as "out of stock" in the Microsoft Store. (TechNewsWorld)
Why This Is Important: The device is $30 more than it was originally expected to be priced, making it nearly $100 more than similarly featured tablets -- a bold move for a crowded market.

"We had a really solid fourth quarter. But we also came out of beta. We were invite-only until Q4. We've definitely seen a spike. And then, hopefully, we'll see another spike when we come out on iOS. That's the next big thing for us," said John Hanke, head of Google's Niantic Labs mobile gaming division.

Here's The Right Way To Rescue A Soaking Wet Smartphone

By Christina Bonnington
It fell in the toilet. The clumsy waitress knocked a glass of water onto it. You forgot it was in your pocket when you jumped into the pool. That's just a few of the hundreds of ways your phone could come into life-threatening contact with liquid. When it happens to you (and it will), as soon as you're done freaking out, you'll probably begin frantically tapping all the buttons, blowing on it, or blasting it with a hair dryer to quickly get rid of all that water.
While those are all well-meaning actions, guess what? Totally the wrong approach. More »
