Tampa, FL (January 3, 2014)—ESI Audio became the first North American sound reinforcement company to deploy the new K2 system from L-Acoustics, using the rig on December 26, 2013 at The Gift, a one-day EDM festival staged outside Tampa's Raymond James Stadium.
by Clive Young We get an avalanche of press releases every day, sent in from manufacturers, studios, live sound vendors, bands and others around the pro audio industry. To be honest, some days there's so many that they become a giant blur of promotion where nothing stands out. But today, I stumbled across one release for a new boutique studio in Boston, Plaid Dog—and this one stood out for an unexpected reason.
"Detroit was good. If you have a rack with all the drive processors for the sound system, maybe don't put them on a UPS because statistically, it's more likely to fail than the power company—and it did. We had 15-20 seconds left of the show and then all of a sudden, all the processors were offline and the PA was muted. And that's when Nate [Ruess, lead singer] decided to give the aerial test to a gold-plated Shure 58 wireless. Got thrown up about 25 feet and landed right down on its side; passed with flying colors though." —Gordon Reddy, FOH engineer for the band Fun.
