Mix's November 2013 issue will include our annual directory of all Recording Schools/Programs in North America, a resource for parents and prospective students alike. Mix is offering both free listings and enhanced listings. The deadline for all submissions has just been extended until this Friday, October 4, 2013. Please review your school's listing from last year's directory here. As Metallica performs a roaring live set for fans in a sold-out arena, a young roadie named Trip is sent on a mission to meet a disabled truck and retrieve a particular item. However, the routine task turns into a surreal odyssey when Trip's van is hit by another vehicle and he subsequently finds himself up against a death-dealing horseman. As Trip flees through desolate streets, he has only his wits to help him avoid the deadly horseman and deliver Metallica's cargo.

Producer Ryan Hadlock
It wasn't a slam-dunk that Ryan Hadlock—owner of Bear Creek Studio outside of Seattle and producer of high-profile projects by the likes of The Lumineers (their Platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated 2012 debut), The Gossip, Blonde Redhead and Ra Ra Riot—would pursue a career in the music industry. Yes, his father, Joe, a recording engineer, had built Bear Creek in its lovely sylvan horse farm setting in the late '70s, and young Ryan was a fixture at the place when he was growing up: "I have pictures of me soldering stuff when I was five," he says with a laugh. "I used to get coffee for people and do various things around the place."

Todd Rundgren to Receive the Les Paul Award at 29th Annual TEC Awards

Re-Recording Mixer Donald O. Mitchell to Receive MPEG Fellowship & Service Award
The Fugitive co-producer Peter Macgregor-Scott has been tapped to present the Motion Picture Editors Guild's prestigious MPEG Fellowship and Service Award to previously announced honoree, re-recording mixer Donald O. Mitchell, on October 5, 2013, at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, Calif.

Shure's 10th Annual Fantastic Scholastic Recording Competition
Shure Incorporated is now accepting entries from eligible universities and colleges throughout the U.S. and Canada until October 31, 2013, at 11:59 p.m. CST. The competition is open to teams of students enrolled at a college, university, or institution of higher learning who are pursuing a bachelor's or associate's degree program with a focus or concentration in fields related to Audio Engineering (Music Production, Audio Recording or Engineering, Electronic Media, Sound Recording, or a similar program).

Al Schmitt at Ocean Way for New Yumi Matsutoya Album
Multiple Grammy Award-winning engineer/producer Al Schmitt recently dropped in at Ocean Way to work on the new album from Japanese superstar Yumi Matsutoya. Schmitt, who is tracking and mixing her 37th album, was joined by fellow engineer Steve Genewick for the recording of guitar overdubs by the virtuoso Dean Parks in the renowned Studio B.
