#1 Panasonic leaks 65-inch, 4K, LCD HDMI 2.0 prior to IFA announcement
  by Richard Lawlor, Engadget
Panasonic is one of the few electronics companies that's not pushing a 4K TV right now, but that is apparently about to change. An AV Forums reader spotted a few webpages cached prior to the company's launch event that show off not only its upcoming 4K res WT600 television, but also details of the HDMI 2.0 spec. More»
Why This Matters: Here's Panasonic confirming the Viera WT600. Here also is a report that the company's big 20-inch 4K tablet we saw at CES will go on sale in Europe…soon. -Cynthia Wisehart

Why This Matters: This Microsoft-supplied article proposes making apps that are "frequency intelligent" and not locked to a given frequency range. That's something AV manufacturers have already worked with. It's an odd article that mixes elementary explanations of things we all know with things you may know, but I didn't--like the work being done in Software Defined Radios that can help devices hop across frequencies. Here's a block diagram of a Software Defined Radio from Texas Instruments and here is IEEE proposing a $40 Software Defined Radio made out of a repurposed TV tuner. -Cynthia Wisehart

#3 Light from London skyscraper melts car
  by Laura Smith-Spark, CNN
Never mind the traffic, car owners in London have a new hazard to worry about: A
skyscraper whose reflected rays have the power to melt cars. More»
Why This Matters: This is an extreme example of the power of light to bend its will to evil purpose—and the power of architects to make impractical choices with unintended consequences. –Cynthia Wisehart
