Today's Top 3 Stories
#1 Why Steve Ballmer Is Not a Failure
Many investors in Microsoft have loathed CEO Steve Ballmer, and the reason why seems to revolve around the stock price, which has fallen significantly since Ballmer took over the role of CEO from Bill Gates at the beginning of 2000.  (Fool)
Why This Is Important: Since Ballmer announced that he will leave Microsoft, there has been a steady stream of pundits claiming he was a either disaster or decent corporate leader. While history will eventually decide his fate it is proper to hear both sides of the story.

#2  PC industry woes worsen as 'phenomenal transition' shrinks shipment numbers
The PC industry's problems continue to worsen, said research firm IDC yesterday as it again lowered shipment forecasts for the year. (Computerworld)
Why This Is Important:  The entire computer industry manufacturing infrastructure is going to have to reorient itself if the desktop and laptop are fully relegated to the industry's back seat.

#3 Dell reportedly prepping 8-inch Windows tablet, considering 10.6-inch model as well
Dell's potential savior might be a $100 USB stick that instantly turns any monitor into an Android-based computer, but the struggling PC maker has no intentions of putting all its eggs in one basket. Windows 8.1 is getting ready for liftoff and Dell's vice chairman Jeff Clarke recently stated that the company has high hopes for the new version of Microsoft's operating system. (BGR)
Why This Is Important: As mentioned in the story above PC vendors will quickly have to find a way to focus their efforts on tablets.
