#1 Microsoft Needs to Speed Things Up With Windows Phone, Says Nokia VP
Steve Ballmer says Microsoft is moving to a rapid release schedule. Good thing, too, because some of the company's larger partners are frustrated by the more laggard approach it sometimes takes — particularly in fast-moving markets like mobile.
Why This Is Important: There is clearly a demand for mid-priced alternative to iOS and Android phones, as proven by Windows' growing market share in the European market, but Microsoft is still playing catch-up in the apps and features race and its partners are getting impatient.

#2  Sony, Panasonic Team For 300GB Optical Disc Format
Sony and Panasonic signed a basic agreement to jointly develop a new standard for professional-use optical discs, with at least 300GB storage capacity.
Why This Is Important: New disc technology promises to offer a longer-term storage solution than more volatile flash memory, which is needed by the cited professional archival use targets.

#3 Pandora Continues To Expand Reach In Cars, Looks To Add Terrestrial Radio Station
ASCAP has made no secret of its belief Pandora pays too little in royalties to artists, or its opposition to the webcaster's deal to buy hot AC "Hits 102.7" KXMZ to qualify for the lower royalty rates that broadcast radio pays.  Now ASCAP is asking the FCC to block the South Dakota sale, saying it's a "theatrical media stunt" that doesn't meet the public interest requirement.
Why This Is Important: While the music-streaming service further grows its footprint, its royalty policies are under fire by artists, record companies, radio stations and even some members of Congress.
