NewBay Media is now accepting submissions for the first annual Best of Show Awards, honoring outstanding products exhibited at the InfoComm Show. Awards will be given by NewBay Media publications Sound & Video Contractor, AV Technology, Digital Signage, ProSound News, ProAudio Review, Mix, Music Festival Business, and Government Video magazines. The program recognizes outstanding products exhibited at the InfoComm Show that are new since the prior InfoComm Show. Winners are selected by panels of professional users and editors based on descriptions provided by you via the nomination form as well as on judges' inspection at the convention. You may submit a product for consideration by one or more of these publications, and you may submit multiple products. More »

TechTalk: It's About Time

We all deal with timing every day. From hitting the stoplights on the way to work to setting a song tempo, making business decisions and even our choices when recording—things always seem to come out better if we get the timing right. I got a memorable lesson on tempo when I first started engineering. I was assisting engineer Brad Gilderman on the Babyface record The Cool In You. Producer/artists Antonio M. "L.A." Ladysmith Black Mambazo, 'Always With Us'
Grammy Award–winning South African a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo recently released Always With Us, a tribute honoring the music of Nellie Shabalala, the late wife of Black Mambazo's founder and leader, Joseph Shabalala. Nellie passed away in 2002 and was considered the group's matriarch. Always With Us, comprising 10 tracks, is built around a collection of songs that Nellie recorded with her own singing group from the township church that she and her husband founded. The members of Black Mambazo added their vocals to the original recordings over several sessions that took place in 2011 and 2012 at KZM Music House in Durban, South Africa, and while touring in the U.S., visiting Club Shmed Studios in Missoula, Mont., and East Hall Recording in Fayetteville, Ark.

Benefit Concert for Women's Audio Mission
San Francisco singer/songwriter Lia Rose will perform an online concert on May 8, 2014, at 7 p.m. Pacific Time to benefit Women's Audio Mission, a San Francisco based, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of women in music production and the recording arts. WAM is raising money to offer more free training classes to an additional 150 to 200 girls and young women the organization hasn't been able to serve this year. WAM will stream the event from its studios via Giving Stage, an online concert platform benefiting charities and causes. Tickets to the show are $10 and donations of any amount can be made at any time.

Guitar Center Sessions Season 8 Is Underway On DIRECTV
New episodes of the award-winning music television series Guitar Center Sessions, presented by Harman's JBL Pro, began airing Sunday, May 4, featuring Seattle band Soundgarden. Now in its eighth season, Guitar Center Sessions has been viewed more than 15 million times since December, and is moving to a new Sunday night time slot, airing performances each week at 8 p.m. exclusively on DIRECTV's Audience (channel 239).

Fort Worth Sound Installs API 1608 Console
Over a span of 25 years and growing out of two previous studios, producer/engineer/studio owner Bart Rose has made his presence known in the Texas music scene through what is now called Fort Worth Sound. The studio works with both bands and singer/songwriters ranging from rock, country, blues and jazz. A new 1608 console by API completes the transformation of Fort Worth Sound's Studio A, which has been a project in the making since 2008.

Pamela Lillard Records with Dave Reitzas at Ocean Way
Singer/songwriter Pamela Lillard has recorded new material at Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood for her third project with Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Dave Reitzas. Lill's Blues Revue is an homage to the blues, celebrating Jimmy Reed, Little Walter, Magic Sam, Mississippi John Hurt, Huddie Ledbetter, and other legends. Lillard was joined by guitarist Randy Chance, drummer Tony Braunagel and bassist Bob Glaub.
