| Today's Top Stories | | #1 | Apple's AirPods toe the line between usefulness and gimmicky | | | By Chris Velazco, Engadget | | | They're not quite ready for public consumption -- the launch is scheduled for next month -- but Apple had plenty of pairs to play with here at its iPhone launch event in San Francisco. As far as first impressions go, the AirPods certainly seem neat enough. Still, do they have the chops to become a must-have for iPhone owners? More» Why This Matters: What did you think I would lead with? AirPods are two little in-ear weird things that make you look a tech-poser-victim (or like white boogers are coming out of both ears). There are TWO of them to lose separately (maybe they come in sets of three which is why they they're $159). Remember how that filpphone move was so early century (and now it's the hunched-over-peering/poking-your-iPhone position?) Here's a lot more information from Amazon if you're interested, as well as a couple of decidedly mixed reviews. One reviewer said they paired it with their iPhone alarm and calendar--they wake up to their schedule projected on the bedroom wall. Wow. Don't do that. -Cynthia Wisehart | | | #3 | Webcast Sept 22: HCDP, HDR, and resolution v. distance | | | SVCOnline | | | Join us as we speak with respected video veteran Chuck Van Dusen about topics including HDCP Pro, why high dynamic range (HDR) has changed the quality conversation, and how to balance variables including resolution, distance, and compression to put the money on the screen where it matters most.
